5 golden PR rules for events…

March 4, 2014

By Rosalind Carr @Rosalind_at_O and Rose Ross @Rose_at_O

ipexpo-exhibitionnewsIn the midst of a busy events period, the O-team have had some tips from Désiré Athow(@desireathow), Editor of TechRadar Pro, and are armed with a trusty event PR checklist at the ready!

Here are 5 handy hints for PRs looking to make the most of event opportunities with the press…

 1.      Timing is key in the run up to events – Do not wait for the last week to invite journalists to briefings- pitch as early as possible to bag a slot in their diary! With an initial conversation in advance, you’ll also have the time to get a sense of what they’d like to discuss, and can prepare accordingly if a briefing is arranged.

2.      Communicating with the press – Each journalist is different in the way they like to be pitched. For instance, we can definitely understand Désiré’s aversion to out of the blue PR calls pitching interviews with unknown companies. However, there are now so many ways of communicating, that over time, you can gage different journalists’ preferences for contact. Read the rest of this entry ?

Rainmaker Files hosts “New Economics” Roundtable at IP EXPO

September 21, 2012

Martin Hingley and Puni Rajah are hosting a roundtable discussion at this year’s IP EXPO about the new economics of storage infrastructure in the era of big data (or savage data, if you prefer).

The discussion will focus on strategies to increase performance and resilience in large installations. Participants will explore how IT professionals can efficiently and cost-effectively meet the increasing demand for storage capacity and performance.

In an article about the roundtable, Rajah writes:

“Earlier this year, we started looking at the role of storage hypervisors in large storage installations. Where is the pain line, and how are storage architects designing for the new economic environment? What adjustments should in-house storage designs incorporate to work with data ‘in the cloud’ to ensure seamless user experience? And are storage vendors keeping up with the unravelling complexity facing their customers?”

Rajah identifies four fundamental areas where storage performance and cost efficiencies can be found: disk array, appliance, network and server hypervisor.

The roundtable will address these issues and more.

If you would like to be involved with this roundtable discussion, please email editor@ipexpo.co.uk.

ExecEvent BIG Event Speaking Opportunities via Emerging Vendors Showcase and Big Data Startup Focus

June 15, 2012

By Olivia Shannon, @olivia_at_o

Technology networking and business development event ExecEvent has announced some exciting new speaking and networking opportunities for vendors of storage, virtualization, security, cloud and data centre technology.

At next month’s BIG Event in Santa Clara, California (July 10-11), there will be two separate showcases – one for emerging vendors in the data world, and the other for “big data companies you should know about in 2012.”   Each company will present for 10-minutes, followed by 5 minutes of Q&A before an audience of potential partners, VCs, press and analysts. Participating vendors are eligible for consideration for an Execullence Award for Best of Show, Most Disruptive Technology or Coolest New Technology. Judges for the Execullence Awards include representatives from companies like Intel, IBM, EMC, NetApp, HP, HDS as well as selected venture capitalists and financiers.

The BIG Event is the one time in 2012 that ExecEvent will bring together executives from across the storage spectrum in the U.S.  The agenda highlights include speeches with a panel of Silicon Valley VCs, an open networking session, a corporate development panel and sales workshop.

There is also this mysterious teaser from the ExecEvent website: “We’ll have a VERY special guest speaker at our ‘Pre’ reception on Monday early evening.  Please try to attend – you’ll kick yourself for missing this.”

ExecEvent will take place July 10-11 in Santa Clara, CA.   There will be opportunities for informal networking in both “pre” and “post” cocktail receptions. Registration is $975.  See The BIG Event Registration for more information.

In order to be considered for the emerging vendors showcase:

  1. Complete and submit the Emerging Vendor Showcase Application (or simply send an email outlining why you think you are interesting and should be chosen)
  2. Register 2 or more attendees – the Big Event registration
