ExecEvent BIG Event Speaking Opportunities via Emerging Vendors Showcase and Big Data Startup Focus

June 15, 2012

By Olivia Shannon, @olivia_at_o

Technology networking and business development event ExecEvent has announced some exciting new speaking and networking opportunities for vendors of storage, virtualization, security, cloud and data centre technology.

At next month’s BIG Event in Santa Clara, California (July 10-11), there will be two separate showcases – one for emerging vendors in the data world, and the other for “big data companies you should know about in 2012.”   Each company will present for 10-minutes, followed by 5 minutes of Q&A before an audience of potential partners, VCs, press and analysts. Participating vendors are eligible for consideration for an Execullence Award for Best of Show, Most Disruptive Technology or Coolest New Technology. Judges for the Execullence Awards include representatives from companies like Intel, IBM, EMC, NetApp, HP, HDS as well as selected venture capitalists and financiers.

The BIG Event is the one time in 2012 that ExecEvent will bring together executives from across the storage spectrum in the U.S.  The agenda highlights include speeches with a panel of Silicon Valley VCs, an open networking session, a corporate development panel and sales workshop.

There is also this mysterious teaser from the ExecEvent website: “We’ll have a VERY special guest speaker at our ‘Pre’ reception on Monday early evening.  Please try to attend – you’ll kick yourself for missing this.”

ExecEvent will take place July 10-11 in Santa Clara, CA.   There will be opportunities for informal networking in both “pre” and “post” cocktail receptions. Registration is $975.  See The BIG Event Registration for more information.

In order to be considered for the emerging vendors showcase:

  1. Complete and submit the Emerging Vendor Showcase Application (or simply send an email outlining why you think you are interesting and should be chosen)
  2. Register 2 or more attendees – the Big Event registration

Journalist Q&A with Bertrand Gare, Editor in Chief of L’informaticien

April 10, 2012

By @Rose_at_O, @Olivia_at_O

Bertrand Gare is Editor in Chief of French ICT publication L’informaticien (or, in English, “Computer Scientist”), a monthly magazine with an accompanying website that is updated daily, along with a free newsletter.

 Q. Tell us about yourself.

I’m Editor in Chief of L’informaticien, a French-language publication for IT professionals. I’m also Associate Director of analyst firm Jemm Research, which specialises in IT infrastructure and consulting for large enterprises. My first job was at IPSOS, where I was in charge of all the sourcing of people for juries on insurance. In 1992, I was asked by a friend with a radio station to be responsible for an Asian radio program; after that, I became a journalist for a press agency focused on Asia and slowly began to specialise in technology.

Q. Tell me about your publication and its interest in IT.

The print magazine now has over 20,000 readers, including IT professionals, administrators and project chiefs. It is very focused on technology in the field; in fact, there is actually computing code within the magazine from time to time. The website is more news-led than the magazine. Compared with other French IT publications, our magazine’s articles are lengthy, running from three to eight pages. That means we always take the time to provide analysis, not just bald facts. With today’s free news model, information has no value other than that added by the magazine.

Call all Storage gurus: #SNWEurope Call For Papers now open

February 22, 2012

By Rose Ross, AKA Rose_at_O

Calling all storage experts as the ‘call for papers’ for the SNW Europe, Datacenter Technologies and Virtualization World conferences is now open. The event billed as part of the “Powering the Cloud” experience takes place this year on 30th and 31st October in Frankfurt, Germany. As the event stradles Halloween, I wonder if we’ll have any scary storage storytelling? Perhaps darkened rooms, upward pointing torchlight of the presenter’s faces? Well you’ll have to just wait and see if you’re brave enough 🙂 – We will, of course, be doing trick or treating to the stands during the expo. So you’ve been warned exhibitors, have your candy ready or you know the consequences!!!

Deadline for submissions is 27th April 2012

Click here to submit papers online

We interviewed one of the organizers Paul Trowbridge about his top tips for success in securing a speaker slot here.

The official line from this year’s website is as follows:

They are looking for quality submissions from IT end-users, consultants, industry analysts and system integrators/VARs, describing case studies or technology update sessions that focus on real-world deployments and/or methods and best practices to evaluate new, existing or future solutions.

Submissions from IT vendors may also be considered but it is vital that these sessions be delivered in a vendor-neutral/product-agnostic manner. To encourage contemporary content, they request that all proposals discuss fresh deployments.  Submissions will be ranked and selected by the Conference Committee based on suitability and adherence to these submission guidelines.

Sponsoring vendors please note:  Speaking slot entitlements that are included in your sponsorship package should NOT be submitted via this process.

By Rose Ross, AKA @Rose_at_O

Q.  Tell us a bit about yourself:

I started to work in this industry in the beginning of the 90’s and spend time at many different vendors (Compaq, SGI, Veritas, Symantec and Brocade) for various technical and marketing positions. I initiated a file collaboration project named KerStor and also started a consulting and marketing services firm (Condor Consulting Group) and we launched the IT Press Tour in June 2010. I also initiated and drive SNIA France regional committee for almost 10 years since 2001 and was 2 times European board of director member. I also participated in many various aspects with SNIA US activities.

Q. Tell us a little bit about the titles you write for and their interest in data storage.

I started 2 blogs in French about Data Protection and File Storage respectively in September 2005 and June 2006. As today, it represents 1000+ blog posts representing the #1 independent storage blogs in France, as it is not affiliated with any vendor.

Cloudcamp London – Goes Big Data for one night only!

January 16, 2012

By Rose Ross, AKA @Rose_at_0

CloudCamp is an unconference where early adopters of Cloud Computing technologies exchange ideas. With the rapid change occurring in the industry, we need a place where we can meet to share our experiences, challenges and solutions. At CloudCamp, you are encouraged to share your thoughts and experience in several open discussions, as we strive for the advancement of Cloud Computing. End users, IT professionals and vendors are all encouraged to participate.

The Big Data Special

Departing from the norm, for this CloudCamp we have a theme – ‘Big Data’ – a perfect use case for the cloud and the cloud is a perfect place to store, manage and analyse big data. Or is it? come along, find out and discuss, let us know what you think.  Of course if you have non data related cloud questions and opinions you’ll have the opportunity to voice them.

As always the unconference will provide vendor neutral unbiased expert opinion, answering questions and discussing issues in a fun and educational way, along with the opportunity to network with cloud users, consultants and vendors.  It is a forum where you can get your cloud questions answered in a unbiased way and meet people with real cloud experieince.

We keep vendor sales pitches to a minimum by giving the audience ‘red cards’ – if you don’t like what the speakers are saying send them off!

The Venue

The Crypt , St James Church, Clerkenwell Close, London, EC1R 0EA.

   Followed by Lightning Talks – short 5 minute educational, non-sales, and entertaining talks. Lightning Talks speakers include: Peter Matthews, Research Staff Member at CA Technologies;

Mark Wilson, Fujitsu; Chris Swan, UBS and Matt Wood, EMEA Evangelist AWS
